A Fall Engagement Session at Maymont Park and the James River
When I met with Kathleen to talk about shooting her wedding in June, she mentioned that she would love a Fall engagement session. She and her fiance, David, have a long distance relationship right now while David studies at Virginia Tech's architecture school and Kathleen at VCU medical school (I know, these guys are smart!). That meant that we had to be speedy about getting a session in place for the Fall weather and coordinating that for a time when David would be in Richmond. Luckily, we managed to pull it all together and I got to spend the afternoon getting to know them as a couple.
When I first decided to start shooting weddings, all I thought about was the WEDDING. Now, I've learned how much easier and more fun it is when I feel like I know the couple. I cannot wait to shoot Kathleen and David's wedding because I know just from spending time with them, that it's going to be genuine, fun, and full of joy. These guys may be brilliant (they're both UVA grads, go Hoos!), but they are so down to earth and fun. Kathleen was full of ideas for their engagement photos. David was a little more reserved about the whole thing (the things men do for us!), but Kathleen brought him out of his shell and they just started having fun together. I love when I can tell someone where I want them to stand for the best light and then let them be themselves. They were total pros. In fact, they should just get engaged again so we can do this one more time, just for fun :)
Enjoy the photos from Kathleen and David's engagement session around Maymont Park and the James River. Kathleen talked about visiting Maymont Park with her mom so many times growing up and David's family is BASICALLY the reason we have the James River Park system today. I won't explain all that because I don't want to mess up the details, but let the awesomeness of that soak in for a bit! Crazy! Also, you'll notice I had an obsession with the Fall sun and lots and lots of flare. I may have gone a little crazy with it, but I'm so happy with how it all turned out.
Comment and leave these guys some love ;)
