NaNoWriMo

writing

Have you ever heard of National Novel Writing Month? AKA NaNoWriMo?

I had. Vaguely. I'd never taken the time to really pay attention to what it was though. Then I was listening to some of my favorite podcasters (podcasts are an excellent way to make photo editing fly by!) and they were talking about how they do this every November.

Basic idea? Write a novel in one month. A novel. Like, a whole one.

I think when I first heard the idea I immediately wrote it off as crazy. But as I listened to the podcast, it started to sound more realistic. Well, maybe not realistic, but at least less crazy. If you don't finish the novel in a month, well it's just not the end of the world because you'll have accomplished so much anyway.

The other thing I hadn't really realized before? It's about JUST WRITING. Not about whipping out a masterpiece in a month. Nobody can do that.

But dang is it still intimidating.

What's more intimidating than taking on the challenge, is telling people you're taking on the challenge. And I am. (At first I wrote "I think I am," that's how scary it is to say that!)

So we'll see what comes of it. There is no better time in your life to try something than now. I have to remind myself that a lot because I'm inherently cautious and hesitant to try new things. And writing a novel? Well, I've been talking about doing that since I was in middle school. I've been writing everything BUT novels since then. So I think now's the time. Being a photographer is a recent dream. Being a writer is the dream I've had forever.

If you're participating, let me know! We can get through it together.

If you have words of inspiration, I'd love to hear them. I literally have no idea where I want to even start haha.

If you want to follow my progress, here's my NaNoWriMo profile.

And if you think this is absolute insanity! I'm totally with you.
