Today I wanted to share a styled shoot I had the opportunity to work on with an amazing group of wedding vendors. I have been so busy sharing real weddings, that this kept getting pushed back on the priority list but believe it or not, we shot this inspiration session in JUNE. And then it was published by Every Last Detail in September. That is how behind the times I am, but you know what, a little burst of color seems just right for the dull gray weather we've been having this week.
Our theme for this wedding inspiration was "quirky retro" and Maggie, the stylist, did an amazing job pulling in lots of details to execute it. Sometimes I just walk into a situation and think "wow, what a playground" because there's something fun to photograph everywhere I turn. That was the exact situation with this shoot. And we had the BEST light! I remember it was supposed to rain the night we did this and it was cloudy and ominous... we were all sure a summer storm was about to roll in any second. But I was LOVING it. Pre and post storm light is probably my favorite! (Keep that in mind, future brides! Storms aren't so bad!)
I've said before on the blog, but my favorite thing about participating in a styled shoot like this is just getting to know new people in the industry. I don't naturally connect with a lot of people when I attend mixers and networking events, but when I get to work closely beside professionals when they're given the freedom to be creative (no real wedding involved) I feel like I get to know them at their best. And that's such a fun thing.
Oh, fun story. The groom in this shoot is actually Maggie's adorable husband, Don. I can't explain what a great sport he was in all this. It's not very often that you have to pose for intimate pictures with a "bride" you've just met while your wife looks on hahah. But he was such a champ and our bride, Queenie, was so natural and good at putting everyone at ease. They were the best!
