Pumpkin Spice Green Smoothie Recipe
I was going to save this post for the first day of Fall to be extra "hurrah, Fall!" but I posted a little teaser on my Instagram, something crude and obnoxious like "TAKE THIS, PUMPKIN SPICE LATTE, I HAVE A PUMPKIN SPICE GREEN SMOOTHIE!" and then lots of people asked me for the recipe so now I must share the pumpkiny goodness.
For the record, I still love pumpkin spice lattes, please don't ban me from your stores, master Starbucks. I repent.
The beautiful thing about smoothies, green and not, is that the ingredients are completely adjustable based on your tastes. When I threw all this together, I had looked at pumpkin smoothie recipes online. I basically just took my favorite things from those recipes and decided to make my own.
Here is my beautiful Blendtec blender jar. With almond milk and spinach. If you've never had a green smoothie, trust me, you don't even taste the spinach.
Dates are a good way of naturally sweetening your smoothie. I also like honey, but mmm dates. Just make sure you pit them.
Also, I used two dates. After tasting, I decided next time I'd use four. I like sweet and my carrots were also extra bitter, so use your own date discretion.
Add some carrots. Maybe fresh, not bitter ones. I was trying to kill my carrot stash. Don't judge. And REALLY, I was just hoping for a more orange-y pumpkin smoothie. It's the little things.
I used frozen bananas even though I had fresh because nothing else in this recipe was frozen and you need something to make the smoothie cold.
Pumpkin pie spice. Yum. If you don't have that, it's just your typical amazing Fall spices (all spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves).
Then I added a tsp of my smoothie MEGA BOOSTERS. Super nutritious seeds and powders that my blender is so good at crushing that I never even notice them in there. For this smoothie I used the chia seeds, maca powder, flax seeds, hemp seeds, and super fruit mix smoothie add-in. Everything is more awesome with the word "super" before it.
And then... WE BLEND.
1 cup almond milk (homemade, if you're super pro like me)
1 large handful of spinach
3-5 pitted dates
1-2 carrots (or handful of baby carrots)
1 cup pumpkin puree
2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
Awesome smoothie add-ins
Add ingredients in the order listed and blend with a healthy dose of "hurrah Fall!" joy and fervor.
