The Garrett Family
I've said this in so many ways before, but examples are always popping up. Pictures are so important. When Kelly and I met, one of the first things she told me was how important pictures have become to her family because her fiancé is now serving in the military in Afghanistan and he only gets to see them through pictures. It was so sweet, and they aren't the first military family I've met who has told me this. Last year I did portraits for another military family and our goal was to make an album full of photos that was small enough for him to carry around with him everywhere he went. Pictures can mean so much and are just another thing we often take for granted.
Kelly and I met up at Sunday Park in Brandermill. She and her kids live there. In fact, Kelly grew up there! So it was kind of like shooting in their backyard. Just a very big, beautiful backyard. Lola started the day off with some tears, but it turns out the key to making toddlers happy during a photo shoot is cookies. It seems really obvious in hindsight and now I just have an excuse to carry cookies with me everywhere I go. And Justin and I were immediately friends since I had unknowingly chosen a session time that was during school hours and instead of telling me no, his sweet mom just pulled him out of school.
People often ask me if they can bring their dogs for a few pictures. I always say yes, but I always suggest someone else (who is not getting their picture taken) comes to be on dog duty so that we can get the rest of the photos without worrying about them. It turns out Kelly's dogs are extremely well behaved and never even wandered away when they let go of their leashes. It was a little amazing to me. The dogs I grew up with would never have done that haha.
Without further rambling, enjoy some adorable winter family portraits.
