SEO For Photographers

SEO For Photographers

I haven't written much for the photographers out there lately! So I figured I'd focus on a topic that I get asked about ALL the time. If photographer friends ask my advice on anything it's about blogging, in person product sales, and SEO! And you know, SEO is good information to have for anyone with a website that you'd like people to find.

First off, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization... or, how likely is a search engine likely to find your website? And since most people are using Google, I would just focus my efforts there.

Deciding What Camera to Buy

Deciding What Camera to Buy

I had a friend text me yesterday asking for camera recommendations. Naturally, I get this question a lot. But it's a difficult question to answer because 1. there are SO many cameras out there to choose from! and 2. the camera you need is so dependent on what you plan to do with it. A lot of people tell me they just want a camera that takes great pictures! But that doesn't really narrow down the list because that's definitely already implied when you're deciding to invest in a new camera... especially nowadays when your cell phone takes reasonably good photos itself.

2015 Wedding Favorites

2015 Wedding Favorites

This post was HARD. Last year I was so diligent in pulling out all my favorites of every wedding as I blogged them. This year, for some dumb reason, that idea was tossed out the window. So when I realized I wanted to do a "best of" favorite wedding pictures from this year post, I had a lot of photo sorting to do! It was kind of fun, but I know that I missed a bunch of favorites as well. There were A LOT of fun moments and pretty portraits this year. You'll see, those tend to be my favorite wedding pictures. I always photograph the wedding details, but it's the people and the laughs that I consistently love the most.

The Art and Business of Portrait Photography Workshop

The Art and Business of Portrait Photography Workshop

This past Friday was a great treat for me. I decided this year that I could only spend money on attending ONE workshop. Photographers, you know, that is a challenge! There are so many people offering so many workshops that it's very easy to drop tons of money into attending all of that educational goodness. Yes, workshops teach us important skills as business owners and photographers, but come on... they're also really fun and a unique way to meet like-minded people in the industry. So I needed a restriction to make sure that I was only attending a workshop that I felt would really enhance my business practices.

Lens Compression

Lens Compression

This may be the nerdiest post in the history of this blog. But I don't think I'll have any wedding or sessions ready to share this week. You may notice, those are coming out a little slower than normal. That's because I have a new policy of making sure my CLIENT is the first to see their images rather than my blog readers. Hopefully those people are all the same, but inevitably they're often not and it's a lot more fun to see your images in a wow moment of reveal instead of in a blog post that everyone else has already seen and commented on. No one wants that.

Watercolor Wedding Inspiration - Richmond, VA

Watercolor Wedding Inspiration - Richmond, VA

Man, you guys. Do you remember when I shot this incredible styled wedding inspiration shoot? It was in SEPTEMBER. That seems like forever ago. I did a little behind the scenes post at the time. But one of the unfortunate evils of styled shoots is that you can't share them right away! There's a long process of finding the right publisher who will share the images in their blog or magazine and then once they decide to take it, you're often waiting a few weeks, months, or I even waited a YEAR once, for them to publish it.
