The New Year

The New Year

After a New Year's Eve of hanging out with my parents, going out for Mexican food, putting baby to sleep, and Netflixing the night away, I thought about how I wanted to end and begin the year. I always want something memorable to be happening when the clock strikes 12, so I looked adoringly at my husband, cozy and warm in bed.

Weekend Wrap Up

Weekend Wrap Up

It's been a long time since Erik and I have had a free weekend. I haven't had nearly as many weddings to shoot as I did last year, but something about adding a baby into your life makes it seem just as crazy. Weddings galore and add in a beach trip and it's been pretty busy! So we were thrilled to get a weekend when nothing was on our calendar.

Five Year Anniversary

Five Year Anniversary

Yesterday, Erik and I celebrated our fifth wedding anniversary. Actually, we kind of celebrated it all weekend long... but in the most casual manner possible. With Willow due to arrive in three days, maybe less maybe more, I think we both had this cloud of "this is it, no more just you and me time for a loooooong time" floating around in our heads. Neither of us said anything about that, but I think we felt especially connected this weekend because of it.

The First Fight

The First Fight

My master bedroom project is still in the works so unfortunately I don't have that to share with you today. And unfortunately, because my "office" space is in my master bedroom, my desktop is currently disassembled while I await my new desk's arrival. This means I don't have easy access to typical photo catalog... that's not to say I couldn't hook up my external hard drive to my laptop and boom, problem solved, but I'm using all this as an excuse to write a blog post with words. Because that used to be all I did. Back in the early days of blogging, it was never about the pictures. And it's definitely fun to revisit that sense of freedom that words give you.

Edinburgh Portraits

Edinburgh Portraits

Can you believe that THIS is within walking distance of Edinburgh? And not that far either. What an amazing city. For our fourth anniversary and for my favorite kind of traveling keepsake... Erik and I had our portraits taken by Mark Pacura, an extremely talented photographer in Scotland. It's good to be the subject of a photograph every once in a while. That way, I have beautiful pictures that I'm IN (every family has that person who's never in the photos right?) and it also reminds me of how my clients feel when I'm taking their pictures. It's a weird feeling! Which is good to remind yourself of as a photographer.

Fourth Anniversary

Fourth Anniversary

This year's anniversary was  pretty low key but also pretty wonderful. I mean, when you're about to go on a two week trek through Europe it seems a little excessive to go all out for your anniversary the week before. Plus, we have a special anniversary gift to ourselves planned for Scotland that HOPEFULLY I'll be able to share with everyone when we return. Cue excitement.

The Good Date

The Good Date

The Good Date came almost a year after The Bad Date. Like I said before, Erik and I were friends before we went on our first date. So for a year, we sort of pretended that first bad date never happened. We saw each other around school, at various gatherings, and everything was peachy keen.

What Erik Had to Say

What Erik Had to Say

Guys. Today is such a treat. For you and for me. Someone casually mentioned in my last edition of the Team Power Awesome story that it would be entertaining to see Erik's perspective on some of this. Well! Erik liked that idea and this weekend he wrote up a version of his own for your reading enjoyment. I have not altered a word of his text (much to Erik's dismay). And it is quite long. Apparently, all this time, Erik has needed a blog to fully express himself! Forgive him for the length. I'm sure he was thinking he'd never have this glorious opportunity again. Without further ado... enjoy our first meeting and date from Erik's perspective.

He even titled it :)
